Lisa’s September Hot Picks

See me in action on WGN tomorrow; September 10th at 12:45 p.m. central time, I will be making Julia Child’s Boeuf Bourguignon allergen free! I hope to one day aspire to the level of expertise of Julia Child, but I do share some interesting things in common with her that made me decide to make one of her dishes. Firstly, I started my career in cooking late in life, like Julia, I attend a Cordon Bleu School, like Julia and I am also at the top of my class. Now, the big difference between us, especially when it comes to French cooking is the use of butter, I don’t use any, or any other of the Big Bad 8 Allergens or Gluten! If you can’t watch, we will be sure to post the segment on the website.

On to some hot picks

The first one comes from Dr. Happy’s Gluten Free Bakery and are called Monkey Brownies, these tasty treats are only free of gluten, however after talking to the owner, Jennifer Greiner, she states that she plans to exclude other allergens as she realizes how many people have multiple allergies, I can’t wait, put me down for dairy and sugar free. So if you think you might like this product, reach out the Jennifer and let her know your allergies, she might be able to accommodate! Monkey Brownies are gooey and the peanut butter in the middle really add to the taste… You can reach Jennifer at www.drhappysglutenfree.com or DrHappysGF@gmail.com

Next up is a breakfast favorite, Bob’s Red Mills Mighty Tasty GF Hot Cereal. I first tried this cereal when Bob sent me some samples for an event and I am so glad he did. I just love this cereal, it reminds me of Cream of Wheat, with a little maple syrup and rice milk, I am in heaven. Bob’s Mill is such a great company, look for my post testing their new corn based products, great stuff! Learn more about this yummy cereal and other products by “Bob” at www.bobsredmill.com. I always have samples of this cereal with me at my cooking classes; make sure to ask me for some.

Just a few tickets are left for our Safe & Sound Dinner at DaLuciano’s on September 12th, make sure you grab them before they are all gone!

I'm confused by your last post, the brownies seem great but they start with dairy and peanuts? and you want the maker to remove both and the sugar? sounds like you are asking for a completely different brownie...what is the priority? I don't get it...

Thanks for commenting, I made them a hot pick because the owner's willingness to adapt her product, I feel the more we ask for products that accommodate our needs the better for all alergenistas and Jen wants to hear from you. I think that is a step in the right direction. Of course, the product will change with new ingredients, but isn't it good to get the process started? Think how far we have come with other brands... Perhaps she won't be able to meet my specific needs (gluten/dairy/sugar), but it doesn't hurt to ask, right?
